Does homeowners insurance cover water damage?
It depends on the source. Sudden, accidental damage, like a burst pipe or an appliance failure, is usually covered. Gradual leaks, poor maintenance, and rising floodwater usually aren’t, and flooding requires a separate flood policy. We document the damage and work directly with your adjuster either way.
How long does it take to dry out a home after water damage?
Most structures dry in about three to five days. Big losses, water that sat for a while, and dense materials like hardwood and plaster take longer. Daily moisture readings tell us when the job is actually done, since carpet and drywall can feel dry while the layers underneath are still wet.
How quickly can mold grow after water damage?
Quickly. The EPA recommends drying water-damaged areas and materials within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. That’s why we start extraction and drying as soon as we arrive, and why waiting a few days to call can turn a water job into a mold job.
Is it safe to clean up the water myself?
Clean water from a supply line is lower risk, but water from a sewage backup or a flooded river can carry bacteria and other contaminants. Don’t handle it without protective gear. Call us instead. Sewage cleanup and removal is part of our water damage service.
Can I turn off or move the drying equipment?
Please don’t without calling us first. The air movers and dehumidifiers are placed to remove moisture from specific areas, and moving or shutting them off can leave water behind in walls and floors.
